The short answer: Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil is an affordable, widely available, fixed formula with a strong minty tingle. An Amber & Oil custom scalp oil is built from only the oils you choose, with rosemary as an option rather than a given. If you love the tingle and want convenience, Mielle is easy to grab. If your scalp is sensitive, you want fewer ingredients, or you want to control how much rosemary goes in, build your own.

What's actually in Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil
Read the label and the formula leads with soybean oil and castor oil, then rosemary, jojoba and peppermint, followed by eucalyptus, menthol, tea tree and a long list of botanical extracts, biotin and vitamins. It is a crowd-pleaser for a reason: it smells fresh, feels cooling and costs little.
The flip side of a 30-ingredient formula is that it is harder to pin down what your scalp likes or reacts to. Menthol, peppermint and eucalyptus together give that signature tingle, which some people love and sensitive scalps often don't.
A note on rosemary and hair growth
Rosemary oil went viral because of a small 2015 study that compared it with 2% minoxidil over six months. It is an interesting result, but it is one small study, and no cosmetic oil, ours or Mielle's, can promise regrowth. We describe rosemary as a scalp-care classic that leaves the scalp feeling fresh. If you are losing hair, see a dermatologist first.
How to build a rosemary scalp oil with Amber & Oil
In the Custom Hair Blend builder, a simple, scalp-first formula looks like this:
- Base: jojoba (light, close to your scalp's own oils) and grapeseed (very light).
- Actives: castor for cushion, plus pumpkin seed or black seed, both long-time scalp-oil favorites.
- Essential oils: rosemary, with peppermint only if you want the tingle. We keep all essential oils together at or below 1%.
Prefer a ready-made version? Braid Season is our light scalp oil with jojoba, grapeseed, hemp seed and pumpkin seed, scented with peppermint and tea tree.

FAQ

Diluted, yes, for most people. Never use it neat. Avoid it during pregnancy and patch test first.
Does Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil contain soy?
Yes. Soybean oil is listed first on its ingredient label.
Can I get a rosemary oil without mint?
Yes. In our builder, rosemary and peppermint are separate choices, so you can use rosemary alone.
How often should I use a scalp oil?
Most people do well with two to three times a week. See How to Oil Your Hair for a full routine.
