Your formula
How does the quiz work?
Five questions about your hair and scalp, about two minutes, no account needed. From your answers we suggest your base oils and your actives, with the percent of each. You add any essential oils in the builder.
Can I change the formula the quiz suggests?
Yes. Open it in the builder and change any oil: the base oils, the actives or the essential oils. You can also set how much of the bottle your actives take, or skip the quiz and start from an empty builder.
Who sets the ratios?
You choose the oils and how much of the bottle your actives take, from 20% to 30%. We set the ratios inside each part: how your base oils are weighed against each other, and your actives. Every oil has its own limit, and a blend that would go over one is blocked, with the reason and the nearest option that works.
Can I leave an oil out?
Yes. The last quiz question asks if there is anything to leave out: tree-nut oils, essential oils, or nothing. We remove those oils before we choose yours.
What does the quiz ask, and where do my answers go?
It asks about your hair, your scalp, what you want from the oil and what to leave out, and nothing else. Your answers stay in your browser, on your device.
Your bottle
What goes in every blend?
Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.5%, to slow oxidation. Everything else is the oils you chose.
What is printed on my label?
The name you give your blend, its ingredient list in INCI names from most to least, its ratio bar with the percentage of each oil, the net quantity, directions and cautions.
Which sizes can I order?
1 oz (30 mL) with a dropper, and 4 oz (118 mL) and 8 oz (237 mL) with a pump. The formula is the same in every size.
What should I do before the first use?
Patch test first. The oil is for external use only, and you should stop using it if irritation occurs. The same caution is printed on your label.

When will my order ship?
Free shipping to the US and Canada. Blended and shipped in 3–5 business days.
Can I return a bottle?
Every bottle is made to order, so we don't take returns for a change of mind. If yours arrives damaged, leaking or wrong, or you have a reaction, we replace it free or refund you.
My bottle arrived damaged, or I had a reaction. What now?
Contact us through ambernoil.com. If a bottle arrives damaged, leaking or wrong, or you have a reaction, we replace it free or refund you.
Can I change an order after I place it?
Yes, until we start blending it, and at most 24 hours after you place it.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes. A gift card has no expiration date and no fees.
Is there a subscription?
No. We send a reorder reminder instead, and you decide.
Do I need an account?
No. You can take the quiz, build a blend and check out as a guest. An account signs in with a link sent to your email, without a password.
