Grapeseed oil for hair: what it is, what it does, how we blend it
Grapeseed is the thinnest oil in the library, a wine-making by-product that spreads like water and leaves almost nothing behind on fine hair.

What it is
Pressed from the seeds left after wine grapes are crushed, grapeseed oil is about 70% linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid. That high share is what makes it so thin, and also what makes it the least patient oil in the library: linoleic-rich oils oxidise faster than oleic ones, so a fresh bottle, dark glass and a cool shelf matter more here than for jojoba or squalane.
How it feels on hair
Weight 1 of 4, light. It runs off the fingers, spreads further per drop than any other base oil, and dries to a faint, clean finish with no slip left over. The scent is faint and neutral.
Who reaches for it
Fine, thin or straight hair that goes limp under richer oils; people who want a light scalp oil for braids and twists; anyone building a blend to use on damp hair before styling without the roots looking oiled.
Where it sits in our blends
Light Touch carries grapeseed at 52.3% (with Jojoba 26.2%, Baobab 10%, Pumpkin Seed 10%, and more). Braid Season carries grapeseed at 26.2% (with Jojoba 52.3%, Hemp Seed 10%, Pumpkin Seed 10%, and more). The blends with a product page can be bought as they are; every one of them can be opened in the builder and changed oil by oil.
How to compose with it
As a base oil it can take up to 85% of a hair blend, but it rarely needs to lead alone: Light Touch and Braid Season put it with jojoba, which adds a little body and slows the oxidation clock. Keep the actives on the lighter side (hemp seed, pumpkin seed, baobab) so the whole bottle stays light.
Good to know: Because it is mostly polyunsaturated, buy the 1 oz if you use oil rarely; the smaller bottle is finished before it has time to go off.
