Hemp seed oil for hair: what it is, what it does, how we blend it
Hemp seed oil is the lightest active in the library: a dark green, grassy oil high in polyunsaturated fat that sinks into the scalp fast and leaves nothing on a braided style.

What it is
Cold-pressed from the seeds of Cannabis sativa (the seed carries no THC), the oil is about 55% linoleic and 15 to 20% alpha-linolenic acid, with a little gamma-linolenic acid. That much polyunsaturated fat makes it thin and quick, and also the fastest oil in the library to oxidise, which is why it is an active at 10% rather than a base, and why your bottle is blended after you order.
How it feels on hair
Weight 1 of 4, light. It spreads like a thin dressing, absorbs within minutes and leaves a dry, matte finish. The scent is green and nutty, like the inside of a seed husk, and it fades under an essential oil.
Who reaches for it
Scalp oiling under braids, locs and twists, short hair and fades, and anyone whose scalp feels tight between washes but who cannot stand residue. It is an active in Braid Season and Clean Line, both at 10%.

How to compose with it
The builder allows hemp seed up to 10% of a hair blend. Lead the actives with it for a scalp oil and pair it with pumpkin seed (Braid Season) or black seed (Clean Line) over a jojoba base. Keep the whole bottle light; a rich base would waste its point.
Good to know: Oxidises fastest of all the actives. Keep it cool, out of the light, and finish a bottle within a few months.
