Pumpkin seed oil for hair: what it is, what it does, how we blend it

What it is
Pressed from hulled pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo), the oil is about 50% linoleic and 30% oleic acid, with a deep green colour from chlorophyll and a toasted, nutty scent. The Styrian kitchen oil is roasted and almost black; the cosmetic grade is pressed raw and lighter, but still green enough to tint a clear blend.
How it feels on hair
Weight 2 of 4, medium-light. It spreads well, settles into the scalp without a slick, and leaves a soft finish on lengths. At 10% its scent is a faint nuttiness under the essential oil.
Who reaches for it
People building a scalp oil, which is where it appears most: Root Note, Light Touch, Full Measure and Braid Season all carry it. It suits braided and short styles, and anyone who wants an active with some body but no heaviness.
Where it sits in our blends
Root Note carries pumpkin seed at 10% (with Jojoba 78.5%, Black Seed 10%, Rosemary 1%). Light Touch carries pumpkin seed at 10% (with Grapeseed 52.3%, Jojoba 26.2%, Baobab 10%, and more). Full Measure carries pumpkin seed at 6.3% (with Fractionated Coconut 78.5%, Castor 8.4%, Black Seed 5.3%, and more). Braid Season carries pumpkin seed at 10% (with Jojoba 52.3%, Grapeseed 26.2%, Hemp Seed 10%, and more). The blends with a product page can be bought as they are; every one of them can be opened in the builder and changed oil by oil.
How to compose with it
The builder allows pumpkin seed up to 10% of a hair blend. Root Note gives it 10% beside black seed over jojoba; Full Measure uses 6.3% with castor and black seed. It pairs with every base and with the fresh herbal essential oils (rosemary, peppermint, tea tree).
Good to know: Green. At 10% it tints a jojoba blend faintly olive; that is the oil, not a fault.
